Since first submitting this proposal in January, I have spent considerable time thinking about what I hope to gain from this experience. My first proposal, as the reviewers note, had a lack of clarity about the overall goal. I realize now that this was because I was not exactly sure what I wanted. I knew I wanted to be more involved in Study Abroad and I knew I wanted to continue teaching and conducting research in other countries. It seemed that looking into the administrative side of Study Abroad might be a good way to achieve all of these goals. In the time since submitting the first proposal and receiving the reviewers' comments and concerns, I have come to some conclusions and solidified a more specific goal. It has become clear that my passion is to teach and conduct research in the area of cross-cultural communication. This realization changes the nature of the resubmitted proposal significantly. The new directions in this proposal now involve requests for resources to learn qualitative research methods, time and resources to develop a unique set of classes for pre-med students who want to study overseas, and resources to attend a NAFSA conference to better understand the issues and challenges facing teachers and administrators involved in study abroad.
