This proposal seeks funding for a collaborative project that will generate a new body of work that explores image and text and the creative process itself. The project will result in a limited edition of artist's books that combine language with imagery in a series of lithographic prints that "track" the way both text and image evolve and respond to each other over several stages of collaboration. This marks a significant departure from painting, my area of expertise, into the field of printmaking and of artist's books. My experience in both areas, and with integrating image and text, is largely nonexistent. With these new directions in mind, I have secured an invitation to a printmaking residency at Open Studio in Toronto. This "guest" residency will grant me four weeks of twenty-four hour access to a fully equipped professional print shop, free of charge, while also giving me access to master printmakers and lab technicians, to guide me through learning the lithographic process.
