Oberlin's new strategic plan places emphasis on preparing students to make connections with the wider world. This goal is being partially realized through the creation of a new learning community structure called StudiOC through which three course clusters will be offered around a shared theme. The proposal is to provide support (travel, materials, speakers, and stipends for course development) for those StudiOC course clusters that have an international theme and would benefit from collaboration with Alliance institutions. The StudiOC idea is well-conceived, has the support of the Oberlin faculty and administration, and is supported by a good assessment plan. The first StudiOC courses will be identified in spring 2017, developed in summer 2017, and offered in fall 2017.
