This grant provides a course release to facilitate the implementation of curriculum relating to the Fine Grain art exhibition at Denison University in fall, 2011. The New Directions Initiative has funded the creation of this traveling exhibition, a public art installation that focuses attention on the American food system. Thanks to these grants, I will be engaging in a variety of educational experiences across the Denison curriculum, in about 16 different classes from Communication to Geosciences, Biology to English, and Psychology to Religion. Instructors have expressed interest in farm field trips, exhibition critiques, photographic exhibitions related to Fine Grain, reflection assignments, and cross-pollination of ideas among courses participating in the exhibition. This grant will additionally make possible the administration of assessment tools and the development of materials for subsequent installations on other GLCA campuses.
