Faculty members from the German Departments on three GLCA campuses propose jointly revise an existing upper level course on the cultural history of immigration and integration in Germany since 1945 to include issues arising from the recent influx of refugees to Germany and Austria. As the proposers point out, the topic fits nicely with the Grand Challenge theme of Challenging Borders. In addition to the content, the course will have students working toward using German at an intermediate-high level in reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The course would be offered on each of the campuses in 2016-17, with the proposers offering guest lectures in each other's courses (sometimes via videoconferencing). The proposers hope to have the students in their courses collaborate on a project.
