Human-caused global warming is arguably the most important physical phenomenon of this generations and of coming generations in the foreseeable future. A problem as large as global warming has wide-ranging impacts and can thus be addressed by many areas of study. A problem of this scale can also appear overwhelming. This proposal will enable a careful study of how my existing set of scholarly research skills can be most efficiently refined and redirected to work on the problem of global warming. I expect to emerge with a well-defined new focus for my research and a set of preliminary experiments. The knowledge acquired as part of this project will also inform my courses and prepare me for collaborations across departmental, divisional and institutional boundaries.
