|Sumita Furlong serves as the Program Officer for Global Pluralism at the GLCA. Among her global portfolio of projects, as a speaker of English, German, Hindi and Bengali, she leads the consortia's international admissions and recruitment initiatives, including India. She also leads our domestic diversity and inclusion portfolios such as recruitment, retention, programs, student leadership, conferences, summits, Title IX efforts and more.
In past positions, Dr. Furlong has served as the Executive Director for the National Conference Logistics Center, Centre for Human Relations Studies, Global Diversity Advisor to NAFSA, Assistant to Provost at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; Senior Policy, Planning Analyst and Grant Officer for the University of Wisconsin System Administration. She is involved with intercultural and globally focused organizations such as SIETAR and IASAS: International Association of Student Affairs and Services and is the founder of Institutional Globalization Consultants (www.globalize-campus.com ).
Dr. Furlong received her Ph.D. in Educational Administration, Assessment & Policy Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her higher education administration experience spans student affairs, academic affairs, international and global affairs, recruitment and retention (domestic and international), strategic planning, institutional research, program development, management, grants and more. Her work also involves training and development of higher education, public service and corporate professionals. She has years of experience in leading and managing large events and national conferences such as NCORE, NAFSA: Association of International Educators, Derby City, Heritage Festivals etc.
She is particularly interested in designing programming (leadership, curriculum related, classroom-to-out-of-classroom, experiential) that address student development and focus on universal issues of equity, diversity, inclusion, global awareness, leadership, current events, and topics that move us towards making this world a better place.
